 It is said that the origins of chopstick rests can be traced back to the 7th century in Japan, when they were used for Shinto rituals. At Ise Grand Shrine, a tool called a "hashidai" (chopstick stand) was also used.
 Chopstick rests have come to be used in Japan through a history and style unique to the country.

 Traditional textiles, too, offer a glimpse into the history and culture that our ancestors have preserved for so long. While there is a high affinity between traditional textiles and chopstick rests, their creation was not easy. After about a year of trial and error, we finally completed them.
 Each piece is handcrafted by a female artisan who possesses the technology to preserve the vibrant colors of the fabric while maintaining its transparency (patent pending).
 The process, which makes it appear as if the fabric is floating in transparent resin, possesses a delicate beauty.

 The traditional dyed and woven fabrics used are scraps from the weaving process and from the production of small items, which we receive from the weavers. We make effective use of these scraps, ensuring that valuable resources from the handcrafted process are not wasted. No two items are exactly alike.

 I use chopsticks made from fruit-bearing trees grown in Kyushu.
 Umeedabashi (Oyama Town, Oita Prefecture )
 Oyama Town is a plum-producing area. We use plum branches provided by farmers in Oyama Town and handcraft each and every one of these products.
